About CAMWS

A professional home for anyone interested in the classical world

"…including classicists at all levels of instruction, that promotes the knowledge and appreciation of classical antiquity through support of pedagogy, original research and public outreach." — CAMWS mission statement, 2017

Eleven regions

CAMWS covers 32 U.S. states and 3 Canadian provinces. Choose a region to see its states and how to reach its vice-president.

Choose a region

Every state and province has a vice-president, reachable at statename@camws.org.

Design note: camws.org shows the regions as a single image whose clickable areas have no text alternatives, and each area links to a page that no longer exists (checked 12 October 2026). This map is drawn from public boundary data by the site's own code: the list beside it carries the same information as text, works with a keyboard, and stays correct when a region changes.

Who we are

CAMWS is the largest regional classics association in the United States and Canada, founded in 1905. Its members are Latin and Greek teachers at every level, undergraduate and graduate students, independent scholars, and anyone who enjoys learning about the classical world. Members are welcome from anywhere.

CAMWS is a member of the Society for Classical Studies, the National Humanities Alliance and the International Federation of Associations of Classical Studies (FIEC).

The Southern Section

The Southern Section holds its own meeting every other autumn. A call for input on reimagining the Section is open now.
